Temporary Roof scaffold build with shrink wrap in Vancouver

What Are Temporary Roofs Options for Rainy Weather?

Temporary roofing options are a great solution for construction in wet and rainy weather seasons. A temporary roof is a weather protection cover that can be used over a roof, an entire building, or even just a specified area of a current project.

Living and working in British Columbia means beautiful views but it also means a lot of rain which isn’t always easy for the construction industry. On average we can expect 175 days of rain per year in the Greater Vancouver Area, which is nearly 50% of the year. For this reason, our Vancouver and Vancouver Island crews are experts in temporary roof installations!

Temporary roofing structures

Temporary roofing structures, using scaffolding bases, are typically used to create a controlled environment. Depending on the job site, a controlled environment can mean different things. To further explain, the goal is as simple as keeping the work site dry. Other times specifically requirements are for temperature or humidity control.

Whether your goal is to keep the rain or snow out or keep heat in an enclosed area, we have you covered.

Construction work in Vancouver often requires a weather-protected covered area, therefore we offer weather-sensitive work to be done year-round. No more damaged materials or days off for delays and reduced slippery surfaces for workers means faster project completion with safer job sites. Northstar has decades of experience in building temporary roofs and enclosures in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors. You can check out some of our temporary roofing builds here.

Northstar Access provides two options for temporary roofing both of which require engineering to ensure safe installation. In fact, just last week our crews in North Vancouver completed installing a large industrial shrink wrap roof and enclosure structure for an important client.

Below we further explore our temporary roof options for rainy weather.

SHRINK WRAP:

This temporary roof option is a quick and easy way to cover an entire area, vertically or horizontally. A shrink wrap roof will have a clean, professional look, and given its adaptability, shrink wrap works well with even the most awkward of scaffolding structures.

A shrink wrap enclosure used in conjunction with heat can keep your workspace at an ideal temperature for the task at hand helping you avoid weather and temperature delays.

Shrink Wrap Roofing Advantages:

  • Highly versatile material for structure contour conforms
  • Allows natural light to penetrate
  • Quick installation

Shrink Wrap Roof Disadvantages:

  • One time use material
  • Not as mobile as the Keder Roof System

KEDER ROOF SYSTEM:

This rolling roof system allows sections of the roof to be pulled back when needed and the roof to be separated or moved multiple directions. This is ideal temporary roof option for craning in materials on site through the roof such as trusses or machinery. Once built, it’s just a matter of pulling the sheet back on after the material is in!

Keder Roof System Advantages:

  • Re-usable sheets mean less job site waste
  • Mobile sections allow easy interior access
  • Allows natural light to penetrate

Keder Roof System Disadvantages:

  • Can be costly because of the extra installation time
  • Not as versatile as shrinkwrap
